"Hi Michael. Nice work on the website. Suggestion: put an email contact on there? I have done a chord chart for all the closed chord shapes on GDgd tuning. Lemme know if you would like to add it to your resource there.
cheers
Glenn (Blind Gee…"
"Just got into CBG and just checked your site. Nice, very nice. Bookmarked for sure. I like how you have given good detail at a "trained chimp" level. Look forward to reading it in more detail and learning more."
"I wrote a blog entry detailing my experience with building an Uncle Crow guitar if anyone's interested.
It's a five-parter, and parts four and five deal with mistakes I made, and my overall impression of the…"
"It took me awhile to realize this, but gbe tuning actually sets you up to play open tuning in a minor key! (e-g-b)
So you've got open E minor, A minor at the 5th fret and B minor at the 7th! (i, iv and v)...
I…"
Just added these to my website. The charts give power chords and Major, minor and dominant 7s minus the 3rd. Power chords are also minus the 3rd for anyone who doesn't know - so what this means is you can use a power chord in place of any Major or minor chord. The 7 chords minus the 3rd may sound a little incomplete but if you got another player who can fill that in for you - you're ready to rock 'n' roll. And even if you don't you'll still get a decent sound. Gdg:…See More
"Update:
I took my "Uncle Crow" cbg around town with me when I was running errands last week, and the lady that works at my favorite coffee stand LOVED IT! This morning she asked me about my guitar, and if I'd be…"
"Awesome, thanks guys. I'm not exactly sure what direction the website's gonna take; I just know I want an easy reference site for beginners. There's tons of stuff here and at the Nation on how to tune, how to play, etc.,…"
"That's great Michael, thanks! Lots of us here play GDG, DAD, EBE or other open tunings. I'm going to try GBE, sounds deep, might tame my tinny tin build.
Good luck with CigarBox101 dotcom, let us know if we can…"
So I spent a couple hours this weekend working out chord charts for gbe tuning. I got Major, minor, dim, aug, and 7 chords. All the 7 chords are minus the root, since I've only got 3 strings to work with. The chords work though, especially if you have another player nearby to pick up the root in the bass. Right now it's literally the only thing up on CigarBox101.com, but I'm hoping to add more content over the next…See More
"Alright, now I've got 20+ songs up on my site, now I can show what I was talking about, and what I was asking for re: songs in I, IV, V format. See how I've got 'em laid out…"
"Thanks Diane. The list on the Dr. Banjo site is along the lines of what I'm looking for. Now I'm off to search lyrics and chords, and re-write everything to I, IV, V. And maybe look for some 4 chord songs too, 'cause…"
Welcome to the Clubhouse! How did you hear about us?
I read about the clubhouse on Cigarboxguitars.com and thought it sounded cool
What instruments are you building or playing?
I've built one 3-string CBG, am planning to build one each of guitar, uke, banjo, mountain dulcimer, diddley bo - anything and everything I can think of.
Hi Michael, welcome to the Clubhouse! Lots of examples of all those instruments you want to build, even a separate group for each, plus more.
The focus here is on all types of handmade instruments and music. There are lots of helpful builders and players here and lots of Groups to teach and learn. We welcome participation so don't be shy.
Have a look around, introduce yourself in My Name Is... and add yourself to the Member Map. There's an active Chat Room where you can ask questions, offer help or just talk about anything with some great folks.
