Bottle Neck Slide Cutter Test

Posted on November 11, 2010 at 4:22am 10 Comments

In a chat about cutting bottle neck slides, I remembered I had this old gadget, a yard sale find, which may or may not be an antique glass cutter for cutting gauge tubes for steam things. So I had to find it... and then I had to try it out.

I rinsed out a hot sauce bottle for the test. Yes, it will scratch a line on the INSIDE of a bottle neck.…

Hope Chest, a newbie's first build

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 9:26pm 19 Comments

On Ted's suggestion, I'm blogging to document my first build. Fair warning, I don't know what I am doing so I am just figuring it out as I go and gleaming information wherever I can. This first photo is one some of you have seen before, and then I will bring you up to date as to what I've done so far.

This first build is pretty much just for practice because I have the tendency…

Welcome to the Clubhouse! How did you hear about us?
Maybe on that YouTube or some other website. I've been wandering the internet trying to figure out how to do things.
What instruments are you building or playing?
UPDATE 9/16/2010: I still want to make a guitar out of leather and wood and a pencil tin. I'm learning to play my first homemade instrument, the 3-string Hope Chest Guitar.

Thanks for the words of encouragement Nancy...you're right about the economy...things are as tight up here in Canada as they are down in the States.

Writing for a CBG magazine? Now that would be something. Good for teh cause...spreading the joy of Mojo to the world. Maybe if more people built instruments and played music, instead of building bombs and playing god, the world would be a more peaceful place.

Sorry, just ranting, but thanks for the Kudos...back atchya ; )

awesome guitar straps love the .22 :0) a friend thats still searving (God bless her) just sent me a .50 BMG brass casing that I'm going to cut down and use as a slide will post pics when I get it done. and a goofy tip it works for my pics I use a halogen work light and aim it at a piece of white poster board thats angled at the piece that I want a pic of. it reflects the light softens the glare and preserves the colors on film just remember to keep the poster board out of the pic people kept wondering why I was taking pictures of it lol

Flash is messing with the colors, making the black look gray, etc. This is Lexol Day for 3 guitar straps... one for rrd, one for my dad (the Ted with the Bears & Oak Leaves) and one I don't know if I am going to keep the tooled rose & floral strap for me or auction it off on ebay, haven't decided yet. Everything was freshly coated with Lexol leather conditioner just before this photo. I'll let it rest 24 hours, then buff it out, start on the finish coats.
