How To Swirl Paint A Cbg

How to Swirl-Paint a CBG Part1

At the suggestion of ted, here's an amateur guide to swirl painting a guitar. this will be my 1st double neck build

When i painted the swirl reso, i 'dipped' the whole box - this time thought i try a different approach.

this is the swirl reso which i sanded to 600 grit then used red yellow and blue auto spray paint to build up the purple base coat.

using the spray i discovered the swirl…

Lap Steel Build

Posted on September 29, 2010 at 9:00am 4 Comments

always wanted to try a lap steel guitar and finally got a nice piece of 3 1/3 by 2 1/2 iroko.

so, here goes

decided on an 8 string setup. first to route out the basic shape

always take extra care when using a router - too many 3 fingered carpenters around already :)

still to decide on the tuners,… Continue

Veneer Build

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 8:00am 9 Comments

So, iv'e got some 5mm plywood and a length of oak - time to go to work!

Most cigarboxes are just cheap ply boxes covered in paper, so i knocked up a straight forward 9x10 box and cut some sound holes.

Then i start thinking how plain it looks. not really wanting to slap labels on it (nothing wrong with that),

i thought... how about some veneer!

  1. After some searching on ebay, found this- Kevasinga 0.5mm thick 10x15 and…

Thank you c# merle for your comment. Ya, that is what a couple of Founders Dirty Bastard Ale will do to you. We always record before we eat! We had big plates of pork fried rice with egg and hot oil for dinner. I am getting old. After that, I was ready to sleep. LOL Enjoy.

Hi there c#. Thanks for the message. The building is going slowly. Currently got slight pickup noise when using metal finger pics or slide, but I'm sure it will all get sorted in the end.

Thank you c# merle for your comment. Well, people might like to play like old Keni Lee, but I don't think anyone wants to be me. Too much baggage comes with the package. LOL Enjoy your practice, Keni Lee

Thank you c# merle for your comment. There is a lot of discussion about what material makes the best slide, but in my opinion, glass, metal, bone, and ceramic all make for a good slide. Thick and heavy seems to be the general requirment and cut to a length to meet your personal need / fit. I really like the mojobone slide. It offers great tone and visually it's very interesting. Fred McDowell used a beef bone slide. Highly recommended. Enjoy.

Thank you for your comment. I am planning on posting a rendition of Charley Patton's Shake it & Break it arranged for 3 string CBG too. This song is very similar in style. It is interest to think what other songs / styles of the period these musicians played. I would also assume through radio they listened to music from the Great American songbook and artists like Jimmy Rogers too. Enjoy.

Gday. Thanks for taking the time to check out the Guzither. It plays well, but is a little hard to hold. Definately needs a strap.
