I started a "simple" cigar box guitar build this evening and decided to document it here on the chance that someone may get some useful information from it. =)

The basics will be this:
2 piece white oak neck w/ mahogany fretboard
Bolivar Cigar Box
23 3/8" scale length
Decorative brass hinge tailpiece
Dual piezo bridge/pickup
Clothes rod pole hanger trim rings for sound holes
4 string mandolin tuners on a double scarfed headstock
Nut will likely be black Corian

Here's the ingredients:

Note here the bridge support glued on. This will be the only part of the neck that touches the top. Neck is attached only to the 2 blocks at the ends of the box. This allows not only the top to move, but the back as well, which has a great deal to do with sound. =) Also not the small sliver of darker wood under the tail end of the neck. This gives a bit of neck angle to get the bridge height up somewhat.

Here's a hint of what it will look like. Not the headstock will be angled toward the treble side for better tuner alignment. THis will be a slotted headstock. Haven't decided on a scalloped strat type drop, or a regular scarf joint to drop the headstock down.

Thinned out the neck on the table saw.

As well as cut out the headstock shape and pieces.

And cut fretboard veneer to fit neck and drilled sound holes.

Now, where's breakfast..........=)

Now to cut along the line and scarf it onto the other side to get an angled headstock.

As you can see, the angle from nut to tuner posts will be much better with the angled headstock.

This is really helpful. I can't wait to see the final steps to the finished product!
